Vampires are shapeshifting demons that use blood to enhance their abilities. They have fangs that can suck the blood of their victims, though many vampires choose to ask for consent before doing so.
In their default form, vampires generally are as pale as a corpse. Aside from their fangs and their paleness, you wouldn't exactly be able to determine that they are vampires. They generally look like either humans or elves. They generally are good-looking.
All vampires possess a scary face, which is an alternative form of their face that generally is seen as ugly. This face is generally to scare off or at least intimidate greater threats. This isn't their real looks, though the face itself is not an illusion.
Normally, a vampire isn't required to drink blood, and in fact, most vampires avoid unnecessarily drinking blood altogether, to avoid addiction.
Blood gives vampire strength, which expresses itself as having increased physical stats. Their speed and agility increases, and their attacks pack a higher punch. As long as they have the extra blood, they're stronger.
Vampires can also sacrifice blood to use demon magic. Unlike other demons, most vampires don't have a magic stone to draw mana from that can be burned. Instead, they sacrifice their own blood, or the blood that they've been fed. Of course, using blood will naturally weaken a vampire, so it's only used as a last resort, or to burn off any excess blood to avoid addiction.
Naturally, feeding can also be used to recover any lost blood due to severe wounds.
A vampire can initiate a siring ritual, where a non-vampire gets converted. The siring ritual cannot be initiated by force, both parties have to consent to it.
In essence, the ritual is initiated when an exchange of blood takes place. Though it isn't mandatory, the most common way to do this is by having the vampire feed on the target, and having blood of the vampire be injected back into the target.
When a sired vampire is identified with a skill, it shows up as their original race with the word "vampire" as the prefix, for example, a vampire elf.
Sired vampires generally are considered full vampires, though the process is reversible. If they ever express the wish to become a true vampire, they can undergo one of many rituals, though this process will permanently change the person, and it can't ever be reversed.
Whenever a vampire sires another vampire, there's going to be a bond connecting the two. This bond is between a master and a servant, though they aren't servants in the traditional way. Servants have their own will, though they always feel like they have a duty against their master, this due to the vampire contract.
This is one reason why a sired vampire will choose to become a full fledged vampire.
A vampire is always born with the Vampire Contract, a magical binding contract that details what a vampire is allowed to do or not. Generally, a vampire should know what is on the contract, though they aren't forced to follow each and every rule. Breaking most minor rules often won't result in a penalty, though breaking the more major ones will result in negative changes.
Some of these changes, like vulnerability to sunlight, can be reversed by following certain conditions of the contract, though generally it's just better to just not break the rules in the first place. Once a change becomes permanent though, the vampire may fall into one of the many subspecies.
This also has severe consequences for sired vampires who have not yet become one permanently, as falling into one of the subspecies will mean the change is permanent as well.
Some of the laws are:
A bride is an individual who has a certain relationship with a vampire, sometimes sexual, but always with a mutual respect. The only requirements for a bride is that they aren't a vampire themselves. Becoming a bride is entirely by choice, a vampire cannot force somebody to be their bride.
Essentially, the job of a bride is to provide for the vampire, and tend to their urges, if necessary. In most cases, it means giving blood, allowing the vampire to feed on them, though it may also mean fulfilling their sexual needs. In return, a bride gains the protection and affection of their groom.
A vampire can have more than one bride, and this practice is actually encouraged, as it's irresponsible to feed on just one bride. That's why it's important for a vampire to choose their brides carefully, a jealous bride is a danger for both the other brides as well as the groom.
Despite the name, both brides and grooms can be of either gender, the bride always refers to the non-vampire, while the groom is always the vampire. Also note that being a bride is not a full commitment, as it isn't a marriage. If a bride wants to get out, they may decide to divorce, and in most cases, the groom will oblige with the request.
Unlike popular belief, vampires are indeed fertile, though only with other vampires can they create offspring. It is possible for vampires to have children with humans or elves, but the chances are really low that those in a relation with a vampire often just choose to get turned.
The offspring of a vampire and a non-vampire will be a dhampir, possessing the strengths of both parents, though they officially are still classified as the non-vampire parent's race.
